Donations - Whole Planet Foundation
A genuinely sustainable shopping experience doesn’t start and end at the store. Instead, our shopping carts are simply the last link in a long chain stretching all the way back to the place where the products we buy were originally grown or produced. Making this supply chain as fair and healthy as it can be at every step of the way is a crucial part of creating a better world.
Since 2005, the Whole Planet Foundation has been working to do just that by funding special programs that raise living standards and secure economic justice for the farmers and suppliers who lie at the very start of the life cycle of products we purchase in the United States. A project of natural food retailer Whole Foods, the Foundation operates in those regions in the developing world where the company sources its many products.
The Foundation’s primary tool is something called a microloan. These tiny loans are made to individuals and families who use them to start a new small business or make badly needed improvements in an existing one. While miniscule by American standards, microloans enable their recipients to create or strengthen a self-sustaining business that in turn lifts them out of poverty and allows them to enjoy healthier and wealthier lives over the long term. It’s a kind of "economic stimulus" that allows individuals to take control of their financial future and build a more equitable brand of prosperity in their needful communities.
We're extremely grateful for the opportunity to aid this important work with a donation to the Whole Planet Foundation that will be used to fund microloans, support other initiatives like training programs and financial services, and improve living conditions throughout the world we share.
